I *heart* Malaysia

June 10, 2007 at 12:35 AM (I *heart* Malaysia)

We’ve seen a lot of talk about Lina Joy, smelly public toilets, leaking pipes, corruption and racial discrimination. It doesn’t take a brain scientist to notice that there’s a lot we can say and actually have said about how bad our country is, even as we come to our 50th anniversary of independence. Can we actually say something nice about Malaysia for a change? Introducing…

The I *heart* Malaysia Challenge:

If you are:

  • a Malaysian citizen or have a permanent residency in Malaysia,
  • a Chinese, Malay, Indian, Negrito, Iban, Kadazan or any of the other 100 over indigenous tribes in Malaysia, or a mix of any of them (international blood included),
  • between 0 to 400 years old,
  • own a blog, and
  • really really love Malaysia

I want YOU to give us fifty (50) reasons why you love Malaysia.

Here are the guidelines:

  1. It must be fifty reasons.
  2. The reasons must be specific. For instance, don’t just say “I love the food”. Mention specifically whether it is ‘mamak’, ‘tai chao’, etc. If you want to mention a particular foodstall that you are fond of, be my guest.
  3. A little explanation will be good too. For instance, why do you like the public transport system? Is it because it is on time? Or because you find the ticketing man at the LRT station very mesra?
  4. Put them up on your blog.
  5. Link that entry to this particular entry (see permalink).
  6. Encourage your fellow Malaysian blog readers to do the same.
  7. It cannot be sarcastic.

It’s like a meme, with only one question: why do you love Malaysia?

Now, here’s my end of the bargain:

  1. Later this week, you will get the know the 50 reasons why I *heart* Malaysia.
  2. If I get 1000 unique reasons why we love Malaysia, I will list them down and send a letter to the Prime Minister (by the way, congratulations on your wedding, Pak Lah)

So what say you?

If you happen to be a tourist or a non-Malaysian who just really loves Malaysia, thank you very much. However, I’d love this exercise to be one where Malaysians speak for themselves. But I (and I think I speak for the Malaysian community) appreciate your compliments.
